Book-cover Design
ABOUT THE BOOK
The book Sita is written by author Amish Tripathi who is well known Indian author known for his novels The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas, The Oath of the Vayuputras and Scion of Ikshvaku.
THE PROJECT
The book cover is designed as a part of competition #DesignforAmish which is held by Westland Publication. The brief for the project was clearly set by the author and explained in a series of videos.
THE CHALLENGE
Designing a character of the protagonist of the book-lady Sita as per attributes given in the design brief was the most challenging part of the cover design. Showing SIta as a strong, independent woman and a fierce warrior are unusual as per common notion in India.
THE BOOK OVERVIEW
CONCEPTUAL SKETCHES
This pose, however, is unusual for the character of Sita, given how she has generally been depicted in other visual works by artists.
I decided on this pose for the protagonist because I wanted the readers to not have presumptions about her and be more curious about who Sita really is.
