Naran — An illustrated

Publication design

ABOUT THE BOOK - NARAN

Naran is an outcome of the course 'Learning from the fields' in the fourth semester at NID. The books contain illustrations and stories of people from the village Naranpura, situated at Mahensa district in Gujrat, India.

THE PROJECT

We visited the village Naranpura, spent a week and collected the stories from the villagers. I interviewed a few villagers doing different professions and recorded the audios. Sketched the glimpse of the characteristics of the people & the surrounding and illustrated it for two colour publication design.

IN THE FIELD

The course learning from the field was not only about the village and the  villagers from Naranpura but also about us to know and experience the village life. Since I lived in the village, very less things were new for me so I gave myself a new task which was to know and understand how much the villagers are aware about the Govt. schemes for them, their local and national politics etc.

The book is dedicated to my late grandfather who used to make a Mace (Gada) out of a rat-drilled coconut and a bamboo stick when I was a child.
